One day my Uncle was walking up the street as I was down and he remarked “another early autumn it looks like” The leaves were all changing and were blowing on the street. Intermediate This song is a lullaby for my first two daughters. Lindsey was 18 months and Ashley an infant. I was a young father and was very besotted with them. I checked on them sleeping one night and this idea sprouted. The next day it was done. Play very simply and with expression. From the album "The Window" 1994

Early Advanced Level. My second daughter has eyes that are remarkable. They are very blue and very large. Stunning eyes. When she was 17 she came home crying for some unremembered teenage reason and hugged me. I looked into those eyes, now clouded with sadness and I wrote this song within the hour. When my first daughter was 5, I wrote her a short story about a boy that moved into the country. They were remote so he had no friends. So, he climbed a large hill every night and would have conversations with the moon, to ease his loneliness. He never imagined the moon would speak back! This is the soundtrack. There was a meadow in my hometown that was never developed. As a child I would go to the middle and lay down to look at the swaying high grass. I would go there when feeling overwhelmed or sad. Intermediate While on vacation with my wife in Alberg Vermont, I took a walk and noticed a dead grove of trees in a swamp-like area. For some reason it reminded me of how fleeting life is. I took a picture and wrote the song later at home. There were several high trees and they are represented in the flitting like high note melodies. I find the energy quite peaceful. Intermediate When I wrote my album " Meditations on the Psalms of King David" I was in a time in my life where everything was uncertain. I decided to write it as a gift to God for giving me the gift of music. Although everything was changing around me I took comfort in the Psalms. I noticed that having hope was becoming real to me for the first time. This song represents the knowing that God has your back so to speak. I began to trust him again to be Lord of my life. Whenever I play this song I can feel that realization again and it is a comfort. Play slowly with much expression. From the album " Meditations on the Psalms of King David" 2008

When we found out it would be a "She", I wrote this song while my wife was still pregnant. I tried to envision her smile and what her life would be like. I have always loved being a Dad. Krazy Kat is written about my cat Dimitri Shostakovich, who was an avid hunter and loved to bring me "gifts" everyday. The song describes his movements and a story about chasing a mouse. You'll see descriptions for each part, and playing this song makes you feel very "feline". Composed in 2014 and released on the album "Looking Through the Rain" in 2016.

Lost Valley was a place in my childhood woods. It was a little meadow surrounded by pines so it was hidden. I spent hours there as a boy exercising my imagination. He was a very good father who always treated others with respect and compassion. Secluded Glade describes a hidden meadow near my old house. I would always go there to enjoy the peacefulness of this place and now playing it you can experience this too through music. There is a nice stream nearby and birds singing in the trees above. It is always cool, with the trees providing shade to the glade underneath. Take a moment to relax and soak up the tranquility of Secluded Glade. Written in 2014 and released on the album "Looking Through the Rain" in 2016.

This song is a description of the beautiful sunsets we have in East Tennessee. One of my favorite things to do especially in spring is to sit outside and watch the sunset. The colors change so quickly and the clouds are vibrant and varied. Take a moment to relax and play this piece, and imagine the spectrum of colors from deep red to purple and a feeling of contemplation and bliss.

One evening in Tennessee I was standing on the porch with my son watching the mournful sky. I had just moved here and the weather was very different from my New England life. Then the rain started to fall in bursts that grew to a downpour like I had never seen before. So I said to my son ( now composer Patrick Lee Hebert ll ) "Look son, the sky is crying."
